He has done far better than anyone else. You cannot blame him for so-called slumping. IMHO, Cell was a very nice trick.

King gets into his slumps. Just like all writers

You should always exapnd your mind in reading as much as possible but to deprive yourself of a pleasure based on an arrogant disregard for the popular is a shame.

ninestein09 says there is little value in Kings writing, I can only pity this person who fails to recognise that Horror is one of the most struggling genres today due to the benchmark being set so high by the exact writer you wish to degrade. One of the greatest gifts a writer can have is a true understanding of the psyche of man, King demonstrates this relentlessly, which is exactly why he is held in such high regards.

In terms of questioning him as a writer you have to say it depends what you want to read and what you want out of a novel. I also think the idea of King as the greatest writer of all time comes only from those who have read very little, but you cannot question that he has set a modern benchmark in the skill of suspense, something that the reader can appreciate in even his poorer novels. As a writer I know that such skills are to be studied and aspired to.

Interesting comments here. Personally I love Steven King, it simply is literary entertainment. Ill admit he has a lot of books where I genuinely believe I could do better but then there are the novels which are true gold. Ill put up with the bad for the genuinely great.

True. I'm just saying that too much credit goes where it often shouldn't; people--lots of people--think King is the greatest writer of all time, ill-informed people who hardly read any other type of literature.

I've only read one book of his and was ambivalent to it myself, just saying your attitude is too stuck-up. People who enjoy less intelligent entertainment are not necessarily less intelligent themselves.

Therefore, I am a bit disconcerted when too many people read literature that offers very poor (if any) stimulation.
