Description: This comes from Carl Sagan's Cosmos episode 7, "The Backbone of Night." Carl Sagan teaches children, at his former elementary school, about the Universe and our place within it. Near the end of this clip, is yet another of Carl Sagan's most profound messages: "There are in fact 100 billion galaxies, each of which contain something like a 100 billion stars....We find that we live on an insignificant planet, of a humdrum star, lost in a galaxy, tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe, in which there are far more galaxies than people." |

JustyHakubi 2008-02-26 13:50:19 He was truly a great spokesman for astronomy and science. His show Cosmos really got me interested back when I was child. There really needs to be another contemporary show about astronomy hosted by someone with the passion of Sagan. __________________________________________________
ManifestMiasma 2008-02-24 07:51:52 I see how patient he is, how clearly he relates such complex sciences as stellar spectroscopy or extrasolar planet detection to the minds of children, and I see what a wonderful educator - not just scientist - he was. There are plenty of teachers like him though, but we need more. You can't help but be impassioned by studying the universe. __________________________________________________

SkepticalZombie 2008-02-21 11:05:35 No why did Carl Sagan never visit ME in elementary school? I got shafted! Be seriously - what a true visionary. His impact goes farther than his immediate inspirations; his way of thinking will and has been passed on by other generations. __________________________________________________
Naturyl 2008-02-03 00:32:05 Exactly as he predicted, we do now know of dozens of planetary systems. He was a man ahead of his time. __________________________________________________ |
