Description: From 1984 to 1986, KTXL aired a sketch comedy show originally made for Showtime called "Bizarre". Most episodes featured some foul language and comic nudity. When I heard about this show coming on, I told all my friends the same way Cartman did in the South Park "It Hits The Fan" episode. KTXL introduced each show with this rather stern warning. The beginning is cut off here, but the complete announcement is "Tonight TV40 is presenting Bizarre, in its original unedited Showtime version. Because of its adult theme, it is intended for mature adult viewers only." This of course made me want to watch it even more, though I kept checking to make sure my parents didn't find out! The show was by no means pornographic though even though this intro implies that it is. There's 2 DVDs of the show available from most of the mail-order places which have most of the show's classic sketches. I don't know what other stations ran this, but it did show up on San Francisco's KOFY channel 20 in San Francisco in 1988, they also ran it uncensored though there were no warnings beforehand. Supposedly there was a "cleaner" version made for Canada's CTV network, though I've never seen any of those episodes. |
