Description:

We tested the Extreme Shock Air Freedom Round in a Springfield Armory XD service model 45 ACP vs. a 185 Winchester Silver tip on some watermelons. This shows that the AFR round does not fully penetrate a fleshly target. Which makes it good for home defense. This also shows how devastating a Winchester Silver Tip round is. More ballistics testing videos to come.

hmm. you could be right. but idk. i dont shoot handguns too often. or rifles for that matter. these are just watermelons after all. i like the whole side of a ham idea for testing penetration on a low budget

I understand where you're coming from, but over penetration is mainly a problem with rifles and shotguns. If you've taken any defensive handgun courses, you would know to put 2 rounds into the thoracic cavity, and maybe a shot in the head. The people that worry about handguns penetrating walls should figure out how to use the sights.

sure you penetration is going to more likely kill somebody. but the bullets keep on going after they hit somebody. even normal handgun bullets can easily go through a wall unless it hits a stud. and handgun bullets like the one in this vid can easily penetrate two people. how are you so sure whats on the other side of that wall? How are you going to aim that gun so it hits the robber but not your daughter? and find somebody that defends their families with AR-15

Why the emphasis in less penetration? Handguns are woefully inadequate in their stopping power as compared to a shotgun or rifle. You WANT penetration. Because even the hottest handgun bullet is slow and mediocre compared to a rifle, you need all the penetration you can get. You want the greatest amount of linear tissue damage possible for the best chance of incapacitation (immediately dropping your opponent). You want penetration. Penetration is your friend.

That's a good idea. I'll see what I can find. No doubt the silver tips are a good round.

I'll try and fine some for the 45 acp. I have some 9mm rangers, but that would not be a fair test, unless I bought some AFRs for the 9 too.

NO, a 125gr bullet at 1200fps is not anywhere near 500fpe, its actually less than 400, 399.6fpe to be exact, a 125gr bullet would have to travel at 1343fps to break the 500fpe bariar, OR a bullet traveling at 1200fps would have to weigh 157gr to break that same bariar

Hey guys try shooting into a side of ham, because it would be more like human flesh as compared to a watermelon. The silvertip is a devasting round because my dad and I did a test similar to yours several years ago. But we were using 230 grain silvertips.
