svartmetall48 ::: Favorites Haha, I wasn't defending Kiwi trains, they're a shambles, I was more defending narrow gauge railways - Japan has a few! 07-06-05 07:46:47 __________________________________________________
linuxluver ::: Favorites You've misunderstood me. The Kiwi trains are top-notch. But I notice the difference in width of the carriages. A wider gauge can allowwider carriages. I have travelled across Canada on passenger trains and from Wgtn to Auckland when there was an overnight train with beds. That difference in width made a difference to my comfort as a passenger. Particularly the sleepers. (I know NZ no longer has sleepers) 07-06-05 07:22:15 __________________________________________________
svartmetall48 ::: Favorites That's hardly true or fair though, there are many successful narrow gauge railways around - take a look at Brisbane and Perth in Australia, they both use narrow gauge but their trains are top notch. 07-06-05 02:42:56 __________________________________________________
svartmetall48 ::: Favorites $16 million is really nothing in real terms. Look over the ditch to see how much is being spent on rail transport. 07-06-05 02:42:17 __________________________________________________
JRick0607 ::: Favorites Wow, didn't realise how small it was 07-06-04 00:12:09 __________________________________________________
linuxluver ::: Favorites "Standard gauge" is 4 ft, 8 1/2 inches.....and is used in Canada, the US and any other countries. New Zealand uses 3 ft 6 inches. 07-06-03 23:38:40 __________________________________________________ |
