Tarkovsky was a true artist and his films should be seen like Artworks. The position of the camera, the no grant effects of the movie...are making it a truly masterpiece in Doric rhythm like Bach's amazing music...you cannot compare the 2..you only compare if you don't know to appreciate Art.I agree with fartjoke2000

er, tarkovsky. probably cause it's NOT a holywood turd full of slick camera work, crappy "dramatic" acting from george cloony, annoying slick muzak designed to "create tension" and insufferable cheesy dialogues. thats why

I like both versions of Solaris, but i find Soderbergh's more moving....more human....more liberating, because death shall have no dominion...

Without trying to make it sound cheesy or dramatic, when i first saw that scene, all i could think was: no more pain, no more sorrow (of losing someone dear...).
Then, there is that opening scene, when Chris cuts himself while cooking, but this time, it doesn't hurt....Again, no more pain....
So, to me, Solaris has somehow "transported" itself to Earth and got into its possession (which according to this version of Solaris is not that bad, because death shall have no dominion).

The final scenes in Solaris, Tarkovsky's and Soderbergh's.
In Tarkovsky's, seeing that small piece of Earth floating in that Ocean makes me think that Kris is still on the space station and Solaris has somehow managed to "pick-up" his thoughts and simulate that part of his mind, his home in this case.
In Soderbergh's, in the final scene we see the Earth covered in this veil that's called Solaris.

If you want i can send you a link in the internet where you can watch the whole movie...send me a private message if you want...as for Sodergerg...compared with Tarkovsky is not an option...Tarkovsky;s Solaris is a timeless Artwork which has target the human soul..not a romance with handsome actors and this is how it should be treated

I have never seen the entire Tarkovsky, this teaser makes me want to see it, but I have to track it down. . .most vid stores don't carry Russian films. I love Soderberg's best, I think because of the beauty of the romance, plus George Clooney reading Dylan Thomas is just damn hot.
