Description:

This is a no-death speedrun that I did on May 18, 2007. I used an NES and a DVD recorder to capture the video. No cheating, codes, or emulators were used. This is part 1 of 2. Stage One With the fury of a thousand dragons empowering him, Ryu begins his quest to kill Irene's murderer and eradicate evil once and for all. Right away, Ryu hurls a shuriken through a shell-headed freak before it even realizes Ryu is there. Ryu sprints through the demon-incubation laboratory and confronts the first of the four great beasts: Mantiss Warrior, the beast commander of fire. Ryu laughs at the so-called warrior's feeble attacks and unleashes a salvo of fiery dragon balls. Ryu dispatches the bionoid with incredible dexterity; Ken Hayabusa would be proud. As always, Ryu kneels to meditate after defeating an important enemy. Stage Two Ryu traverses the desert and calls upon the strength of his Dragon Clan ancestors to help him cross the whirlpools of quicksand. Fearlessly, he leaps into a sinkhole and fights his way through a subterranean passage. He notices a sword upgrade but doesn't take the time to obtain it, knowing that he has to hurry to catch Irene's murderer. Ryu deejays at Club Kill on Tuesdays and Fridays, so he never misses an opportunity to drop a funky beat and decides to emit some rhythmic "hiyas" while waiting for the magma to rise. He eventually confronts Night Diver. The beast commander of the sky injures Ryu, causing him to unleash his rage in the form of multiple fire wheels. He watches with satisfaction as the beast bursts into flames. Ryu kneels and feels the power of the Dragon Clan seething within him. Stage Three Ryu's quest leads him deep into the jungle, where flying piranhas try to knock him into the deadly current. Inside the stream-filled cavern, he gets struck a couple of times, but it's nothing the stalwart ninja can't shake off. Once again, Ryu sees a sword upgrade but knows that he doesn't have time to obtain it if he wants to catch Irene's killer. Ryu eventually enters a massive underground chamber. The two fountains would provide the chamber with a sense of tranquility if it weren't for the presence of the Great Koganei, the beast commander of water. Proving that ninjas are tough and not just agile, Ryu absorbs two shurikens as if they were made from a third grader's notebook paper. He burns the beast with fire wheels and smiles as it writhes within the flames. Ryu kneels beneath the fountain; the flowing water invigorates him. Stage Four Ryu continues to pursue Irene's killer and wonders why the distant mountains seem to be hanging upside down. Were the Great Koganei's shurikens covered with a hallucinogenic poison? Ryu summons his inner dragon strength to quell the poison and terminate the hallucination. He then enters a spike-filled corridor. He invokes the ancient art of the invincible fire wheel to pass through the spikes quickly. Ryu barges into a dead-end room and confronts the beast commander of the earth, the Sandeater. Ryu unleashes a barrage of wave blades into the beast's soft underbelly; then, seven slashes from the Dragon Sword send the beast back to hell. Stage Five Amid a torrential downpour, Ryu reaches Castle Rock Fortress. The enemies are as thick as the rain; Ryu shows how quick and agile a ninja can really be. Three floating platforms, slick with rain, provide Ryu's only access to an upper-level door. His grip is strong, and his footing is sure; he reaches the door unscathed. Inside the fortress, he starts crossing a bridge that begins collapsing. Much to his relief, Ryu obtains an invincible fire wheel and sprints to the end of the bridge, disintegrating any enemies who are foolish enough to stand in his way. In the next room, he eyes a bottle of medicine but decides that real ninjas don't need medicine. Ryu discovers that Irene is alive ("Did you think that I would die that easily?" she says) and confronts her would-be killer. The doppelganger performs some impressive acrobatics, but they're no match for Ryu's sword-slashing and fire-wheeling techniques. Ryu meditates while the doppelganger burns.

Beat 1 and 2 in one day. Once you get the patterns and speed down it's cake.

See, I hear a lot of people saying this was the hardest one. Personally, I was never the best Ninja Gaiden player, and I have the most trouble with the first one, then this one, then Dark Sword of Chaos.

I agree that Ninja Gaiden III is the hardest game from the NES's Ninja Gaiden trilogy.

It was intentional. You should hear what Ryu can do with some turntables.
